Afternoons on the Porch

The Man and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on lovely Mackinac Island, at the infamous Grand Hotel. It's sort of like the Grand Canyon; you just have to be there to appreciate its grandeur.

With temperatures in the 70's, every afternoon found us joining other guests out on the 660-foot porch, drinking in the views, chatting with each other, or just catching a quick nap. Nothing extraordinary, but so refreshing to the spirit.

  1. Oh man - temperatures in the 70's and 60's!? Sounds like a small slice of heaven right about now. Thanks for stopping by! I will most definitely make note of Simple Pleasures Thursdays here. If I don't participate, I'm sure I'd *love* to read!

  4. i don't know which i'm more jealous of: the temperatures in the 70s or the 30-year anniversary...

i do know, too. it's the very impressive anniversary -- although i'm tempted to lean the other way, in this Tennessee humidity.

    congratulations!

  5. I am soo glad that I was finally able to read the end of your previous post. I am not sure what happened, but it just cut off a little over half way through....ANYWAY, I just can't say enough how I love how you write. It touches my heart and spirt and carries me along through the whole thing. Having been married 35 years I can so identify with every little thing you said soo well. Life and marriage is definitely about the peaks and valleys and both are just a certainy...and yet so many anymore reach a valley and simply chose to bail out. The sad part is they miss the mountain tops when just nothing can be better than a soul mate who knows you down to your bones and accepts you for who you are and loves you with a commitment of "till death do you part"...CONGRATULATIONS on your 30 years...how wonderful that is. Your video had me in tears for some reason. Like I said, you just touch my heart. Your daughter is beautiful btw, how blessed she is to have the two of you for her parents. May you be blessed with many more years together. Hugs, Debbie

  6. Congrats! I recognize that view...we were at the Grand Hotel for 4th of July in 2008. Watched the fireworks from the cupola. I'll bet it was a nice place to celebrate an anniversary. The best part of our stay was the free Independence Day carnival, which our oldest still talks about as the standard by which all I-days will forever be judged. LOL.

  9. I love the shot of the porch! The porch is one of my top reasons for wanting to visit Mackinak Island. What a wonderful time you must be having on your Anniversay Adventure.
