Simple Pleasures ~ A bit of dishwashing

Washing a few dishes in the evening can bring a sense of calm to a chaotic day. It’s slow and easy, allowing me time to look inward, to think, to pray, to dream.

Household chores aren't generally on my list of simple pleasures, but, believe it or not, there are a few that I actually enjoy. What about you? Have you discovered a simple pleasure this week? If you have, I'd love to hear about it. If you’re visiting this party for the first time, please click on the Simple Pleasures tab above for important information before linking up.

Two things to remember:

1.  If you find your link has been deleted, please re-read the guidelines. If you still aren't sure why, plesae contact me via email.

2.  This is a fun party, and I think we have the friendliest bunch in blog land, but don't stress over visiting each participant. Just mingle as time allows, or as you desire. Of course, I get around to visiting with all of you, sooner or later. It's the highlight of my blogging week. I'm honored that you would join me here.

What's your simple pleasure?

  1. You know, I think doing dishes is one of the more "pleasurable" household chores for me. I always feel like I can relax for the evening after I get the kitchen cleaned up.

Thanks for hosting simple pleasures each week, Dayle.

    Blessings,
    Joan

  3. You know, this kind of goes with my new goal to be mindful -- being present in whatever I'm doing so that I can find joy.

  5. Dayle, household chores aren't necessarily on my list of simple pleasures either :), but I so agree about dishwashing. Sometimes I do get lost in it and it brings me much peace.

  6. Dayle, I whole-heartedly agree with you. As much as it can seem a burden at times, washing the dishes ALWAYS brings me an inner calm. Just as you said, praying, dreaming, pondering...

And...if I allow myself the enjoyment of it, even folding the laundry can do the same :)

  8. Just so there's no misunderstanding (ha!), I use my dishwasher every day, and can't imagine not having one (ugh). But washing up the stragglers is something I do enjoy.

Several people have commented recently on the header picture with the rubber boots. Thank you! That antique drop-leaf table sits in my foyer and those boots are some I picked up for $7 at an antique shop. The old adding machine belonged to my grandfather, and the books are family heirlooms.

  11. I've never considered house chores to be pleasant until I read this and gave it some thought. For me, it's laundry. It causes me to slow down and reflect. Especially when I fold my sons' clothes. It causes me to be grateful that they are healthy enough to be running and tearing holes in their jeans. I loved to fold my children's clothes when they were babies too. I might just have to do a post on that. Thanks for the inspiration! I'll give a shout back to your post.

  13. Hi Dayle!
This is my first time linking up to "Simple pleasures". What a wonderful linky party!
I have been slowing changing my attitude and view of some household chores. Until recently, all the chores I do, I seem to think of as complete drugery. Until a moment hit me, each of these things is a way I bless my family. I know, I am slow! LOL
One of the odds things that I have always enjoyed doing is ironing my vintage linens. I always think about the people who had them before me and how they must have taken care of them since the are still in such wonderful condition.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

  14. I never thought about washing dishes as a simple pleasure but it's something that my husband and I do together...and we talk and enjoy each other's company...we don't rush and the end result...a nice time and a very clean kitchen!

  15. I agree. One thing about dishes you can always count on them to wait on you to allow for that quiet contemplation. ;)

  20. I'm trying to catch up! I can see where this may be a Simple Pleasure for some, but I so love my dishwasher. Now if I had a sweet pair of gloves like yours I may just change my mind! Happy weekend to you, Dayle.

  21. Hi Dayle, I don't have a dishwasher in my kitchen so I do the dishes everyday by hand but I really don't mind it at all. I love to see all the bubbles. I missed the link up this week, but came to have a look around anyway.

  23. I'm trying to decide if I can find a simple pleasure in dish washing. Thinking...thinking...

    Nope.
But I can indeed say that I get a real pleasure out of scrubbing and dusting. I don't know why, but I love to scour a kitchen and dust a room. There's something about it.
