On the Road Again ~ Goodbye LA

It’s 11:00 on the West Coast. Coffee is good and the sun is shining. Lord willing, the retirees will, in a few minutes, wave goodbye to the little spot in Van Nuys, California that we’ve called home for the past 10 days, and head south to San Diego. It’s been a joy exploring the beautiful Los Angeles area. It had been many a moon since either of us had been a tourist here; it was nice to see it through older eyes. We’ve covered Anaheim, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Hollywood, Los Angeles, Malibu, Santa Monica, and all sorts of places in between.

Thanks to the recommendation of a friend, we went to Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles and experienced this unique combination for the first time. It was such a hit, we went back the second time. You must try it! The photo of the Hollywood sign was made while waiting in line to get inside Roscoe’s. Heading north up Gower Street is one of the best views of the infamous Hollywood sign.

And thanks to another friend for suggesting we visit The OriginalPantry, a landmark in downtown LA that has not closed its doors since 1924. We stopped in late one night after a Dodgers' game and it was, equally, a hit. Had it not been so far from camp, we would have returned again and again. Wonderful place.

Well ... I must get busy, so that's it for now. Thursday is another Simple Pleasures happening. Woo Hoo! I know I half-way promised to share photos of our drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, so maybe I will do that for Thursday's party. It was certainly a simple pleasure. I hope you will join me.

Until next time, keep the faith.

  1. Dayle,
I have enjoyed your travels very much and I am so glad you had the chance to go back to California and revisit the places you once knew. The tips you were given on where to eat and where to go sounded like winners! I pray you'll have a safe journey home. See you Thursday for Simple Pleasures.
