One Little Cabinet ~ A Favorite Thing

Hanging in my guest bedroom is a little cabinet that has been with me for a very long time. Problem is, my memory isn't what it used to be and about all I can remember is that I ordered it from a mail-order catalog in the 1980s.

In the early years, it was used as a medicine cabinet in one of my bathrooms, but at some point (and I don't recall why), I moved it into the guest bedroom where it has no real purpose, except to display a few vintage linens that have fallen to me from one ancestor or another.

Even though the cabinet is mostly empty inside (except for a few stray candles), and I could certainly put it to better use, I still enjoy having it around.

  7. Hi Dayle..your cabinet is lovely and if it's only purpose is to make you smile knowing it's still around ...then it's being put to good use. I'm sure your guests like it too.

  8. I have a white one very similar that I use in the master bath. In my recent "fruit basket turnover" of closets and spaces, it ended up empty. I'm trying to decide the best way to showcase it. I love the interior of yours. I should do that!

  10. I like how you are re-using this cabinet instead of using it in the bathroom.

BTW, how is your friend, Diana?

  12. Hi Dayle! Wow - this very cabinet - orange calico interior and all - is hanging just now on the wall behind me in my office/studio! My mother-in-law gave it to me eons ago (probably late '80's)and it didn't have the mirror. A casualty of some accident, I suppose. Instead of replacing the mirror, I designed a hole punch pattern with a little house and the motto "Home Sweet Home", and punched it out of copper sheeting from the craft store. I tacked it into the door and have kept it in my home decor ever since! The copper no longer shines like it once did. It has a dullness and darkened coloring to it making it all the more "vintage" in appearance. I used to keep it in my bathroom with all my nail polish and make-up items. It holds nothing now, but makes for a terrific wall grouping centerpiece in my room. So funny - catalog ordered you say? Fun!
    Joy to you!

  13. That is such a beautiful cabinet, Dayle. I love the towels you have hanging there, and from what I can see in the mirror it's perfect in that room.
