Andrea Bocelli ~ What You May Not Know About His Mother

I first published this post in March of 2013, but since this is the solemn anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, I'm posting it again. I hope it will touch you as much as it touched me. You can also read my personal views on abortion in the "Today's Featured Post" column, found in the right sidebar, or follow the link to this and other posts on abortion here.

Here's the post from 2013:

A few years ago an article was published about how tenor, Andrea Bocelli, praised a young mother for rejecting her doctor's advice to have an abortion, even though she knew her child might be born with serious disabilities.

The young mother was Andrea Bocelli's mother, and he was that child. Because his mother chose life for her son, she gave an incredible gift to the world, through his music.

Andrea Bocelli is one of my favorite singers. I've been privileged to see him perform in person, and his talent is something to behold. Being blind, not only does he have to memorize the complex lyrics to all of the songs he performs, he must also memorize the melody, the arrangement, the tempo, the starts, the stops. He possess true God-given talent, and what a testimony about choosing life!

You can watch Andrea share his moving story on YouTube here

Andrea said his hope in sharing this was that women would consider his story, when facing difficult situations. That is my hope, as well.

Until next time, dear friends, will you join me in praying for those whose lives have been impacted by the horrors of abortion?

  1. Hi Dayle! Thanks for posting this. I LOVE Andrea Bocelli, too. Have you seen his Christmas DVD of a couple of years ago? David Foster played the piano and made the introductions. And yes, what an amazing voice and wonderful man!

  2. Oh, Dayle! I know you'd love it. The show is available in both DVD and CD. One for the car, one for the TV!
It really is an amazing performance, and you are right about David Foster. They don't call him the Hit Man for nothin'! :)

  3. Andrea was my Papa's favorite singer. I knew all about his story because of my Papa's love of the man and his music. Amazing talent. And the fact that his voice makes me think of my Papa is an added bonus. I'd love to hear him in concert.

  4. I have seen Andrea Bocelli in concert twice and I couldn't agree with you more. His voice is like pure silk! The 2nd time I saw him, in 2010, Heather Headley was there to perform with him...she is also absolutely amazing live!

  7. Oh Dayle, I so agree with you that Andrea is a marvelous talent for the world.

The first time I heard his testimony about his mother not aborting him, it made me cry, too.

If only it could be shown in high schools and middle schools throughout the nation, and in every Sunday school class for young people.

It is a powerful example of the beauty of human life and all the potential talent that is often snuffed out.

Thanks so much for the reminder. Have a beautiful Palm Sunday! Susan

  8. I did NOT know that, Dayle. He is amazing and has such a God given talent. When our oldest son's wife went for her "tests" they told her there MIGHT be something wrong with the baby and they should abort. They said -Absolutely NOT. She was born without a SINGLE THING wrong with her and is 14 now. Man does NOT always know the ways of God. Thanks for this story-it is amazing! xo Diana

While I'd heard this story before, I wholeheartedly believe it needs telling and REtelling!(If even one young mother were to be touched ....)

  15. I didn't know that part of his story, and you are so right in every area. His gift is a wonder of God, and his mother's testimony about choosing life a powerful one. I'm so glad to know this!

  16. Praise God! That is a wonderful testimony and I did not know that. I do know that I also love Andrea Bocelli. I first heard his music long ago in a gift shop and had to ask who was singing like that. Fortunately, she was also selling the cds and I bought one pronto. It was not the last.

    Thank you for telling us!

  20. Thanks for sharing this story again, Dayle Ironically, just yesterday, I read the same thing about Celine Dion. Her mother was talked out of aborting her by her mother's priest. Here is a link to an article about both of them. http://www.lifenews.com/2014/05/26/andrea-bocelli-and-celine-dion-two-amazing-singers-who-were-almost-victims-of-abortion/

    1. Wow! I'd not read this about Celine. Such talent. Imagine the lost talents of 50 million people, aborted in the womb.
