One Little Cabinet ~ A Favorite Thing

Hanging in my guest bedroom is a little cabinet that has been with me for a very long time. Problem is, my memory isn't what it used to be and about all I can remember is that I ordered it from a mail-order catalog in the 1980s.

In the early years, it was used as a medicine cabinet in one of my bathrooms, but at some point (and I don't recall why), I moved it into the guest bedroom where it has no real purpose, except to display a few vintage linens that have fallen to me from one ancestor or another.

Even though the cabinet is mostly empty inside (except for a few stray candles), and I could certainly put it to better use, I still enjoy having it around.

  1. What a wonderful, sweet little cabinet, Dayle- xo Diana

  2. Nice cabinet. I love the color of the wood and your lovely embroidery. :) Kit

  3. I love cabinets and the older the better. This one has a great mirror which makes it all the better. Deb

  4. Its such a nice little wall cabinet...the inside is lovely too..might be an idea to leave the door open and display some little things inside it. Just an idea of course :) Blessings

  5. Hi Dayle....I like your cabinet and especially with the lovey old towels, so prettily embroidered, hanging from it! Lovely. Susan

  6. I think the cabinet is used just perfectly - those towels deserve to be on display.

  7. Hi Dayle..your cabinet is lovely and if it's only purpose is to make you smile knowing it's still around ...then it's being put to good use. I'm sure your guests like it too.
Have a good week Barb from Australia

  8. I have a white one very similar that I use in the master bath. In my recent "fruit basket turnover" of closets and spaces, it ended up empty. I'm trying to decide the best way to showcase it. I love the interior of yours. I should do that!

  9. I love the way the pretty linens look hanging from your pretty cabinet, Dayle. Thanks so much for joining in this week!

  10. I like how you are re-using this cabinet instead of using it in the bathroom.

BTW, how is your friend, Diana?

    1. Melanie, I have emailed you regarding Diana. Thanks for asking. I will post again soon.

  11. Hello Dayle. Your mirrored cabinet is lovely! I can see why it is a 'favorite thing.'

Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment on my blog post about voting. I appreciate it very much!! I'll be voting in the morning.

    Have a wonderful week!

  12. Hi Dayle! Wow - this very cabinet - orange calico interior and all - is hanging just now on the wall behind me in my office/studio! My mother-in-law gave it to me eons ago (probably late '80's)and it didn't have the mirror. A casualty of some accident, I suppose. Instead of replacing the mirror, I designed a hole punch pattern with a little house and the motto "Home Sweet Home", and punched it out of copper sheeting from the craft store. I tacked it into the door and have kept it in my home decor ever since! The copper no longer shines like it once did. It has a dullness and darkened coloring to it making it all the more "vintage" in appearance. I used to keep it in my bathroom with all my nail polish and make-up items. It holds nothing now, but makes for a terrific wall grouping centerpiece in my room. So funny - catalog ordered you say? Fun!
    Joy to you!

  13. That is such a beautiful cabinet, Dayle. I love the towels you have hanging there, and from what I can see in the mirror it's perfect in that room.
